CPS ENERGY WORKING TO RESTORE POWER TO CUSTOMERS AFFECTED BY STORMS (UPDATE AS OF 11 A.M.)

June 29, 2022 (SAN ANTONIO) – Thunderstorms and rain swept through CPS Energy’s service area yesterday, causing over 4,600 lightning strikes and some strong wind gusts which brought down nearly 70 power lines.  As of 11 a.m., there are currently 164 outages affecting 1,094 customers. Many of the outages are impacting individual customers and are estimated to take the rest of the day to restore, as crews must repair equipment at individual locations throughout the community.

CPS Energy team members are working on nearly a half dozen power lines that have been reported down this morning. Customers are asked to NOT touch any lines that are down and to report them at 210-353-4357 (HELP). Crews are continuing to work quickly and safely to restore power to customers who are experiencing an outage. CPS Energy is communicating directly with customers who are without power through automated phone calls and the Customer Response Unit (CRU) team is also out in various areas of the community today.

CPS Energy is reminding customers of the following tips as the utility works to restore power:

  • Please stay away from downed power lines and report them to CPS Energy. Do NOT attempt to move or drive over the lines. Treat them as if they are live. Even in an outage, power lines may still have electricity running through them.
  • Keep the refrigerator door closed as much as possible. Refrigerated food should be safe for up to 4 hours. Visit the U.S. Food & Drug Administration website to learn how to keep food safe at fda.gov.
  • If your neighbors have power and you do not, check your breakers. Tripped breakers account for about 20% of our service calls
