Today, the CPS Energy Board of Trustees elected a nominee, Janie Gonzalez, to fill the board vacancy for the Southwest Quadrant. She will replace Trustee Dr. Homer Guevara whose term ends on January 31, 2019 after serving 10 years as a member of the CPS Energy Board. Mayor Ron Nirenberg, who serves as an Ex-Officio member of the CPS Energy Board, will work with his San Antonio City Council colleagues to schedule a confirmation hearing for Gonzalez before the City Council early in the new year.

“We were pleased with the level of interest and caliber of candidates we received from our community to fill our board vacancy. We were able to find a strong nominee in Janie Gonzalez,” said Board Chair John Steen.

“Janie has extensive leadership and drive. Her experience, education and commitment to serve is valuable in meeting the business and strategic needs of CPS Energy and our community,” said Dr. Homer Guevara, CPS Energy Trustee and Chair of the Board Nominations Committee.

Janie Gonzalez has had a long career in technology as the President and CEO of Webhead, a company that specializes in providing cybersecurity solutions to clients across the nation. She has her bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Texas at San Antonio and has completed graduate work in business administration at the University of the Incarnate Word. She is also a graduate of the University of Texas at Austin Graduate School of Business Community Advancement Program.

Once confirmed, she will join Board Chair Steen, and Trustees Ed Kelley, Dr. Willis Mackey, and Mayor Nirenberg. The five-member Board sets policy and works with management to oversee business operations of the nation’s largest municipally owned electric and gas utility. CPS Energy generates more than $2.5 billion in revenues annually, manages over $11 billion in assets, employs over 3,000 employees locally, and returns up to 14 percent, or over $300 million a year, to the City of San Antonio’s general fund.
